Perched on a hillside overlooking Haystack Rock on the Oregon Coast, the Hallmark Resort & Spa is an eco-conscious resort with the ultimate view.  Our stay at the Hallmark Resort was a magical experience and the ultimate finish to our stay on the coast.

We were delighted to arrive in our top floor, Oceanfront room to an immediate view of Haystack Rock and the Ocean directly through our patio door.   The spacious balcony provided a panoramic view from high above, yet literally on top of, the magnificent Cannon Beach.

The stunning coastal view wasn’t our only delightful surprise.  A gas fireplace with a view of the Ocean warmed us on the cool fall evenings during our stay and the room included a refrigerator and a microwave.   Our hosts had thought of every detail including an array of bath amenities that included a charming container of bath salts for a romantic soak in the ensuite Jacuzzi tub.

Another much appreciated surprise were the little cards from the Hotel reminding us to be Earth Friendly.  One we had not seen previously was their suggestion to use the provided Earth friendly makeup wipes in lieu of the towels for removing makeup as makeup stains the towels and takes more detergent and water to clean.

Since the hotel sits on a hill, the views are amazing and the rooms are especially quiet being away from the road.  The only potential downfall to its hillside location is that it is  a downhill excursion to get anywhere from the hotel including the beach.   Some may consider the many steps and long pathways to the rooms a deterrent; however, we enjoyed the exercise of going up and down the stairs to get to the beach and the nearby restaurants.   If that wasn’t enough exercise, the hotel has a full air conditioned fitness room, a large indoor swimming pool and two central hot tubs.  There are even washer/dryers located in various places around the hotel.

Parking at the hotel included underground and room-adjacent spaces; however, some guests had challenges finding parking that would accommodate a full-size truck.  We recommend a smaller – and more economical – car for easier parking.

Although it was several long blocks away, the Hallmark Resort was within walking distance of the charming Cannon Beach tourist area.  In addition to the many boutiques, galleries, antique stores and clothing shops, Cannon Beach had a Naturopathic physician and an Earth friendly spa with natural products and services.    For those traveling with their pets, the nearby town of Nehalem featured the Nehalem Animal Clinic, an alternative medicine veterinary clinic.

There is no restaurant or room-service at The Hallmark Resort which we originally thought was a disadvantage.  However, we soon discovered many nearby restaurants that were worth the walk (or drive).   For breakfast, we went to The Wayfarer Restaurant with its beach-view deck and massive fireplace.  They also serve lunch and dinner and were just steps from the beach.    For dinner, there were amazing options located within the Cannon Beach tourist area but directly across from the hotel were two fantastic choices.    We showed up at what we thought was an organic coffee house (which it is during the day) but which apparently transforms into an Irish restaurant in the evenings.  When we arrived at the “coffeehouse” we asked where we should go for dinner, and the line of people said right here!  They were all apparently first in line for the magic opening of the doors for dinnWheelerAntiqueer service.

If you travel all the way to Nehalem, you may as go well go a little further to Wheeler, about a 30 minute drive from Cannon Beach.   It’s a blink on the map but worth a stop for those excited about antique malls and collectibles.  If you travel through Wheeler, you will not want to miss the Old Wheeler Antiques shop, with its eclectic mix of upscale antiques including fantastic old radios, jewelry and the typical sundry of collectibles.

Right next door is the Wheeler Station Antiques mall, a more traditional mall-style antique adventure with seemingly endless rooms on 2 stories and comprised of various buildings adjoined together.
